The Fool, The Star, and the Magician

The Fool, The Star, and the Magician
By Anais

Manifestation and faith are two very powerful things, I have traveled rough waters with both more than once in my life. I am a mix of believer and skeptic, perhaps the perfect blending of my dreamy Pisces sun and analytical Aquarius moon. Even though I have been in places of non-belief and lack of faith I can say life has its ways of reminding me both these things are very - very real.

I had my most recent encounter with this lesson last year, and I left the experience with deeply renewed faith in my dreams, myself and the universe as a whole. I was able to create and manifest something which I only dreamed of for the longest time. However, to make this dream come true I had to step into the role of the Fool, I had to gamble a little and take my chances. By taking a chance I manifested a dream. By stepping into the archetype of the Fool I became the Magician.

For those unfamiliar with the tarot, I am speaking about two archetypes from the major arcana, The Fool, and The Magician. The Fool is card zero, the beginning, the start, the first steps of an adventure. The Fool is further connected to the planet Uranus and the element of Air. Through the Fool card, we are asked to do a number of things, to take a chance, to take a leap of faith, to start something new, to embrace the unconventional and to expect the unexpected. The Fool is the first card of the tarot, symbolizing that point of beginning.

The Magician is the next card up, ruled by the planet Mercury. Through this card, we can learn how to be the master of our own universe and how to create the life we desire. Through the Magician, we are still very much in the “beginning” stages of something and we are asked to follow through with it, that is the road to mastery and growth. The magician further represents willpower, magic, duality, skill, a sense of purpose and taking the initiative in your life.

I also want to talk about the Star card here, since its connected to wishes and dreams. The Star card in tarot represents insight, hope, and awareness of the spiritual aspects of life. This is the soul food of both the Fool and the magician. They both need a destination and a purpose, and purpose can be found in the Star.

I won’t go too into my personal journey with these cards last year, but I do want to share how powerful they can be if you are working on manifesting your desires and following your dreams. When it comes to your dreams and goals are you feeling movement or are you stuck? If you are stuck you may need to do something a little different, to revise your approach and plan. If you don’t feel your full potential to be The Magician at this time, then take a step back and be with The Fool.Go back to the beginning and look at your plan and your goals with new eyes. Ask yourself, what can you do differently? What actions can your take? Where can you start fresh? Reconnect with the reason why you want what you want. From this place make your way to The Star and connect with your deepest and truest dreams.

I created a ritual exercise for working with the archetypes of the Fool, the Star, and the Magician. You can elect to use the tarot images or to do without them. The choice is yours. As always, before doing any ritual or visualization work it is important to cleanse your energy and your surroundings. Do so in whatever way you are comfortable with. You can add other tools to this as well, such as crystals and herbs if you feel called to do so. You can use the exact ritual below or use it as a base and make it your own.

When it comes to picking a time to do this, pick a time you are calm and grounded. A time when you won’t be interrupted and can comfortably create a ritual space. I hope you enjoy it and follow all your dreams with confidence!

I am the Magician: A visualization to manifest your desires

What you will need

1 candle
1 crystal (quartz is great for manifestation but use any stone you prefer)
Pen and paper for writing

Optional: the Fool tarot card, the Magician tarot card & the Star tarot card (or other items representing them) Place the tarot images on the altar.

Clear your mind and ground in your protected space

Visualize your goals and what it is you want to manifest while holding the crystal then placing it next to the candle

Once you are ready write your wishes down on the paper with intention

Pick up the candle and light it, imagining the candle filling up with your desires.  Imagine the spark of the flame is the fire which sets your dreams in motion

Place the candle down on the altar

Pick up the crystal and hold it to your heart chakra as you visualize your wishes coming true. See them with 100% confidence. Stay here as long as you would like.

At this point, you can bring the tarot cards into your mediation as well, or just gaze at them tuning in for any messages they may have for you. You can journal the messages now or after the ritual.

Once you are ready to end the ritual you can do this by thanking yourself, your guides and any other helpers you called in for the ritual. Then close it out in a way that works for you.

You can let the candle burn longer or put it out and relight it at another time. You can leave the list with the candle or carry it around as a reminder. For the crystal, you can carry it, wrap it to wear it or keep it with the candle. You can visit this altar, or do this exercise whenever you need to reconnect with your goals.
